DOUBLE-MINDED /?/

by Rebecca Joy Leslie

“Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”—Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“Hath God said?”—the Serpent (Genesis 3)

“…for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind…he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”—James 1

Afraid of winning, afraid of losing;

Afraid of judgments, judging, choosing;

No space between, no hiding place;

Yet hiding from taking

A stand by faith.

How strange it is, that neutral zone.

Hidden in Eden? unseen? alone?

“Hath God said?” No answer is made:

No choices made

In a silent grave.

Becoming more, while less-becoming;

Choiceless, yet choosing a mortal gloaming;

In/Exclusivity—takes without returning

And leaves no place

For grace…

Ask and you shall receive:

The Cross is a “plus.”

Taking a stand, He took away doubt:

The “minus."

In between /?/

No escape from response to

“Did you trust Me or did you not

To make more space

For Grace?”
